Women Roar in 9 to 5 at Roger Rocka’s

“(Abigail) Nolte is a towering talent. She was powerful as Nancy in Oliver!, and seriously funny as the head store elf in A Christmas Story. Here, as a naïve woman who looks for the best in people, she sidles up to Parton’s songs and latches on to them with a love lock. She’s funny, she’s sexy, and she’s tall.”

“Practical and put-upon, with a streak of kindness but also pent-up hostility toward a system that consistently undervalues her, Violet is ready to rumble, even if she doesn’t know it yet. Alison Allwine, a GCP veteran from years past, makes a stirring return to the local stage. Allwine’s vocals, dancing and acting are first-rate, and she helps infuse the show with a strength and vitality that transcends the material.”

Side-splitting laughter at 2nd Space

Fun is overflowing at Good Company Players’ 2nd Space Theatre with the hysterical Moonlight and Magnolias.  It is 1939 and Producer David O. Selznick frantically comes to grips with the fact that the Gone With the Wind script stinks and the director hasn’t a clue. He fires the director and writers and then locks himself, the new director and an ace screenwriter in his office for five maniacal days to act out and rewrite the movie.   Through February 21.

Rated PG-13. Call 559-266-0660 or 800-371-4747.

*Leap Day- Although most modern years have 365 days, a complete revolution around the Sun (one solar year) takes approximately 365 days and 6 hours. An extra 24 hours thus accumulates every four years, requiring that an extra calendar year be added to align the calendar with the sun’s apparent position.
